Bob is Sara Rafael’s x-rated double – a blurred version of her crossing the twilight with a camera in her hands. The images produced while in this peculiar state are themselves charged with duplicity: here we find decadence and youth, privacy and
sharing, the vernacular and the solemn, the casual and the posing… Overall, these images are filled with ghosts – phantoms of a narrative that has as much of an anthropological impulse as of an autobiographical confession. It is only fitting, thus, that the name of this double refers to Bob the killer, the antagonist of the mythical Twin Peaks series and the archetype of the dark side of the mirror. Sara Rafael (1988) lives and works between Lisbon and Vienna. Bob is his second solo exhibition and opens a new exhibition space in the ZDB – an old storage room near the terrace bar – dedicated to shows somewhat more underground.
