What does it mean that we say something is sublime? What is the sublime? And what can the sublime still offer to thought today, and from what angles?
To listen to these questions and try to begin to answer them, we especially evoke the motifs that have guided the inquiries and conversations of the last few months at the escola livre (free school): capitalism, war, artistic representation (theater) – and the theological, on the one hand, and philosophical, on the other, that has been traced between them.
What does the sublime have to do with war, with capitalism, and with theater? And why formulate these questions under the sign of that word, violence?
In the next session, we propose an approach to the philosophical and artistic category of the sublime that will take into account two angles. On the one hand, the path of thought that the motes have successively offered to the free school program. On the other hand, informing this wandering through the research carried out by Teresa Projecto during her PhD in Painting (Painting time: the experience of the limit).
