The set of works present at Galeria Zé dos Bois, all very recent, once again demonstrate the distant commentary work that Gonçalo Pena has been materializing about style in painting in its relationship with the concept in a posture that owes so much to that of the producer/doer as to the historian or collector. This exhibition is therefore part of what has been worked on as a reflection on the general production of painting as a system of meaning or “language” in its relationship with other systems. These are those of the historicization of the poetic itself, of an economy present in the imaginary, of the system of visual arts as a whole and finally of what we could call research (wanting to be combat) on the grammar of the general production of images-concept, the factory of social systems that self-produce despite and in permanent tension with political fiction.
