Mariana Dionísio and João Almeida share the same background after several years of studying together. In Jazz, they have occupied similar roles: soloists, melody counters, or melodic opinionators. The kind of emphasis they seem to be given comes from the linearity that their instruments evidently present – after all, they are two melodic instruments.
With this project, they come together to abandon these roles. With no pretension to take the place of the harmonic instruments that usually accompany them, they work to find another place, developing different formal and sonorous conceptions that, as a consequence, lead them to explore a lot their instrument at a technical level – research that, although personal, has become a singular search to its restricted, but surprisingly rich, formation in duo.
