This exhibition brings together a series of recent paintings, made between 2020 and 2021, now exhibited for the first time at Galeria Zé dos Bois. In Do planalto se dobra a montanha (From the plateau the mountain bends) we find a set of canvases that occupy the space and define a route, creating a body-to-body relationship with the viewer. In these works, Maria Capelo continues to work with landscape, taken in its proper meaning: “a space of land that is encompassed in a glance”. The artist does not hide her relationship with cinema and the influence it has on her work, the exploration of the same plane from different points of view together build a place. In her words:
I start from various points of view of concrete places. Through patient work in the studio, everything is organised and reorganised to make a landscape appear on the canvas, a physical, palpable place. In continuous and irregular movement.
