António Poppe will be on silent retreat at Galeria Zé dos Bois between March 11 and March 17, period during which it will be possible for the audience to observe the artist’s meditation practices during exhibition hours (6pm yo 10pm) and, if they wish so, to join him in silence. In his own words:
This retreat, named silêncio – colosso – silêncio, consists in my staying in silence and meditating for seven days straight at Galeria Zé dos Bois. It isn’t a performance, for the context in which it takes place is not sufficient to give it this designation; it is, as the own word says, one’s retreating to a place that is less filled with activities, them being to speak, to interact or to direct oneself to the outside. It is a return to the self, starting with the attention that gets distracted to again return to itself. It is an investigation around the Being.
On the seventh day of the retreat, Sunday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m., António Poppe will signal the end of this silent week with a recital.
