Sun Blossoms is the personal and non-transferable project developed during Alex’s formative years. At the age of 15 he begins to write the songs that would be part of his first homonymous tape, edited 2 years later, in 2015, by Revolve. Since then he also releases several singles, EP’s and the homonymous album in 2019 by Spring Toast Records and undertakes to form trios with some of his favorite musicians from Lisbon to perform the songs live. In 2020, Sun Blossoms returns with two singles: Void and Being Kind, which refer to the more lethargic sound of the project’s first releases. For the live performances, Alex will count with Martim Brito (from VEENHO) on the drums and Alexandre Rendeiro (with whom he also plays Alek Rein) on the bass.
There is something suburban about the way Alex Fernandes approaches the music he composes on the guitar. If at the base of his songs we find the enchanting repetition of the riff (so celebrated, for example, in the Velvet Underground or the Brian Jonestown Massacre), it is in his treatment of weight and noise that we find a manifesto against the nihilistic boredom of our times, something that is historically transversal to psychedelism, punk and grunge.
