Between what happens and what has yet to be named, a new duet.

Seven years after O que não acontece (What Doesn’t Happen), Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz return to the duet—the format that best reflects the artistic complicity and intensity of this collaboration spanning almost two decades.

Their duets emerge as intimate exchanges with the audience—sharing states of presence and modes of relationship, (re)visions of the world, of what it means to live, destroy, and build with the other.

In this duet, the choreographic, sound, and textual materials emerge from research into the tension between the banality of everyday life and the intensity of the stage. Between songs from past creations and personal archives, the piece settles between a bizarre musical, a conversation, and a dance that resists naming.

Sofia and Vítor look at what they have done, reinvent the past, and test new ways of being together. Based on their shared history, they make their dependence on the stage a vanishing point from which to think about what it means to continue. And to continue together.

Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz

Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz are a duo of artists/choreographers who have been collaborating since 2006. The hybrid nature of their research, combined with a curiosity and need for experimentation, has led them to create various shows, performances, soundtracks, videos, podcasts, and installations, crossing different contexts and blurring boundaries between artistic areas. Their stage shows, predominantly performed by the two of them, employ a refined choreographic language in connection with words and voice and have been presented in more than 17 countries. In 2011, they were awarded the Prix Jardin d’Europe and Aerowaves Spring Forward for their 2011 show Um gesto que não passa de uma ameaça (A gesture that is nothing more than a threat). They have been invited to collaborate with various artists, including Catarina Dias, Marco Martins, Clara Andermatt, Mark Tompkins, Felipe Hirsch, Boris Charmatz, and most frequently with Tiago Rodrigues. They teach occasionally and have been organizing residencies and research groups for artists in different contexts. They were invited to curate PACAP 2 (2018/2019) and PACAP 6 (2023) – Advanced Program for Creation in Performing Arts. Between 2023/24 they are Resident Artists at the Champalimaud Foundation.
