The installation ON: Smile! You’re on camera, presented by Maria Peixoto Martins at Livraria Zé dos Bois, is the result of a project that the artist has been developing over the last year. This work explores the capture of images through videos from surveillance cameras around the world, accessible to anyone on the web, and combines them with a sound composition created from digital sources.
The artist thus constructs an immersive installation that invites the viewer to travel through different images, establishing relationships between them and the sounds that accompany them. At the same time, she draws attention to an issue that is so present in our daily lives and to which we often remain oblivious: what we observe are real moments and real people, most of whom are unaware that they are crossing the screens of thousands of other people.
A space where any of us has been, is, and inevitably will be.
