We know, and we are aware, that the world has been turned completely upside down. Between the hyperstimulation of the digital world and the hyperdepression of the real world (both hyperconnected realities), we don’t know which way to turn. Breathing is difficult, and some days, so is living.
In this scenario of (apparent) total helplessness, it is important that we find refuges that help us paint the colors of a possible new world. In the case of the songs on Crooked Wing, the new album by the Barnett brothers (George and Jack), who together form the duo These New Puritans, these represent a refuge that ranges from the most minimalist and warm art pop to the most industrial and violent trip hop. Songs to feel and reflect on, songs that slowly sink into us and help us turn the boat towards a port where it is possible to dock with the help of hope. Let’s hope it’s possible.
