Cortada

If chaos only begets chaos, it was inevitable that the Lisbon of today would give birth to a band like this, chaotic, in a hurry to feel and urgent to do – lest the city throw them out. This is Cortada, growing into adulthood with their first album, after a debut EP of the same name in 2024.
A band that’s always in overdrive: a blast of noise-punk that runs over boredom and carries the burden of that road that never goes anywhere. Nevertheless, Pedro Almeida (or Dusmond, vocals and guitar), Daniel Fonseca (formerly a member of Vaiapraia and MEIA/FÉ, second vocals and guitar), Lourenço Abecasis (from MEIA/FÉ, on bass) and Bernardo Pereira (from Mordo mia, on drums) never stop running.
Gānbēi ( 干杯 ) is a big but angry record, where the guitar never stops howling and the bass has a lot to say. Hair-pulling riffs, drums that are either restrained or furious, and Pedro Almeida’s voice that is ironic and angry, always ready to sink his teeth into the wounds. It’s hard to explain how a kick in the nuts can make you want to headbutt the wall, but Cortada manage to do it. As anyone who’s seen them live knows (Joana Canela).

Gatafunho

Gatafunho are a band formed in Porto during the pandemic summer of 2021 – and it’s possible that they’re still suffering the after-effects of that ailment. After several reformulations, the project is currently made up of five members: Miguel Ferreira (drums); Luís Gigante (guitar/vocals); André Pereira (bass); Xavier Paes (electronics); Valley Rosário (vocals). Their live performances are characterized by the unexpected, the catastrophic and the drink tickets offered. Perhaps that’s why, to date, no one can remember seeing a bad concert by the band. Amidst the gin and soda, the noise and the kisses, the band transmits a contagious energy to the audience, like any uncompromising punk concert. They have already performed live dozens of times without having released an album.
They are currently working on their first album, recorded in the studios of Cafetra Records, in partnership with Miguel Abras and Leonardo Bindilatti. It is hoped that this album will see the light of day if the windows are opened. Until then, you can listen to them on the “tringles”, available on the bandcamp page of the now defunct Berga Malhas label, or also on the possible recordings of their concerts around the internet.
In short, you expect a lot from five people who don’t want anything special. They are at least one person’s favorite band.

Escárnio

First public appearance of this new band conjured up by Violeta Luz, presenting their debut EP and creating anticipation for an album that will appear later this year. Months of toil in the rehearsal room, in the company of Helena Fagundes (drums), Pedro Treno (electric guitar) and André Amado (bass), who reveal themselves at the right time and in their natural habitat. Escárnio feeds on revolt and truth through rock that is felt in the skin and bone, with direct action. Punk in feeling and almost glam in the way it embodies the roar of the guitars and the stomp of the drums in infectious choruses. All in the service of a sharp, acidic lyric, without fear. In short, everything you’d expect from a band with the name Escárnio.
This project arose from a need to express feelings that consume us on a daily basis and are often repressed. Above all, it is a cry of despair from a woman fighting for her place and equality in society. In Escárnio, the lyrics are not just commonplaces, they are community. They are a necessary performative thought at a time when Portuguese music presents unambitious responses to the place of death into which we are pushed every day, especially women.
The first single “Deixa Queimar” was released on April 2, 2025 and the first EP “Falha-me Deus” will be available at the end of the same month.

Techorpsen

A visual artist to the core and a regular on the front line at rock concerts, Techorpsen brings the same energy to the booth as she does to her canvases. In a fusion of pulsating rhythms and oriental echoes, her musical selection knows no bounds. It’s for dancing, without thinking too much.
As part of the duo The Ema Thomas, from “Os Overdoses” and other projects, Techorpsen unfolds and rolls on Porto’s nights in various shapes and forms.
