Diles Que No Me Maten have already built many buildings in their first decade of existence. The foundations of their sound lie in post-rock and post-punk, combined in a nocturnal odyssey where poets come together to enchant us (or leave us anxious) with their concerns.
On ‘Escrito en agua’, the fourth full-length album by the Mexican band comprising Raúl Ponce, Gerardo Ponce, Jonás Derbez, Andrés Lupone and Jerónimo Garcia, Diles Que No Me Maten leave nothing left unsaid. Here lies everything we need: the answers to an uncertain present that may lead to an even more uncertain future, or to a time drawing closer to the necessary libertarian revolution. And this is music – superb, fierce, diabolical music – which carries within it both the pains and the joys of our time. It is a sparkling and melancholic sonic journey that we can only rejoice at being lucky enough to witness. It is then up to us to reap the seeds it will leave behind; no one will remain indifferent.
