Wolf Manhattan is a producer who, at an unspecified time, lived above a store in downtown New York. Surrounded by his uncle’s record collection, a 4-track recorder and a guitar from the 1950s, he discovered that the only way to calm his loneliness was to listen to the peripheral but leading voices of garage, indie and pop. A true creation of the restless musician, composer and producer João Vieira who, after making his mark on the national music scene with projects such as X-Wife, the Club Kitten parties and the electronic alter-ego White Haus, has now returned transfigured as the character Wolf Manhattan.
The result is stripped-down songs about broken hearts, personal doubts and debts, bad decisions, lost dreams and precarious jobs. In an extravagance born of creative urgency, João Vieira drew on lo-fi references to build this new folk-punk-garage persona. Adam Green and his Moldy Peaches, Jonathan Richman, the Velvet Underground and Daniel Johnston were his travel companions to write this story and create a new sound that presents itself as an antidote to neutralize the complexities of everyday life.
And because there are many layers and avenues through which Wolf Manhattan makes himself known, live the ear-catching and direct songs are presented through an exciting concert with characters, scenarios and unexpected moments that give access to the whole universe that surrounds this mysterious character.
