ACID ACID

As Acid Acid, Tiago Castro has been around for about ten years. As a radio host, we’ve known him for much longer, thanks to several memorable shows on Radar and SBSR, and now with A Floresta Encantada on Antena 3. Acid Acid, one can safely say, is an extension of his tastes, expressed through creation rather than broadcasting. But we can say that, here, one thing blends well with the other.
After releasing Jodorowsky in 2020—the result of an invitation from MOTELX to create music in homage to the legendary Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky—Acid Acid is back with The Radio Under The Stars. The title leaves no room for misunderstanding; there is a tribute here to radio and its role, but it goes beyond that. Acid Acid has always navigated the intricacies of psychedelia, weaving through the most classic connections to rock, but also seeking out the intermediaries found in offshoots of krautrock, in certain library music—especially British—and even in shoegaze.
There is something classic about Acid Acid’s music, which seeks context rather than demanding it. The Radio Under The Stars can be listened to in various ways; it is as much a psychedelic album as it is an ambient one built through rock textures reminiscent of mid-1990s Spiritualized. It can also be heard as a mixtape, where various melodies come together to build the ideal moment. And with every second of The Radio Under The Stars, you feel that there is no ideal moment like the present. The music opens itself up to discovery and piques our curiosity, while tugging at our memory and a desire to make connections.

Afonso Sêrro

Afonso Sêrro, who was recently awarded the SPA / Antena 2 Composition Prize 2025 (2nd place), began his musical journey by studying classical piano and later turned to jazz on an informal basis. He holds a degree in Musicology from the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH) and also studied composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
He explored electronic and experimental music and quickly stood out as a keyboardist for various bands, performing at numerous festivals across the country.
In 2017, he founded the jazz group Mazarin, which gained recognition not only within the jazz community but also in the hip-hop scene. In 2019, he formed a new group, Atalaia Airlines.
At the same time, he formed the collective YAKUZA. With this group, he released two widely acclaimed albums and continues to perform at jazz, alternative, and major festivals. YAKUZA is described as a “mobile collective”—an entity in constant flux in terms of lineup and sound. Afonso Sêrro is one of the central figures of this collective, whose sound is often anchored by his keyboard playing, grounding the group’s identity.
Afonso has also developed a solo career as a composer and producer. He works in his studio in Lisbon, where he composes film soundtracks and sound design for performances, on both his own projects and collaborative ones.
At ZDB, he will present his debut solo album, released by Ovo Estrelado Records, Piano Impromptus. The result of a few days of isolation at Casa do Piano to capture some improvisations, Piano Impromptus is, in Afonso Sêrro’s words, “like a musical snapshot of that time when I was isolated, intimately disconnected from the rest of the world for just four days that felt more like four years. This album marks the beginning of a musical journey very different from what I’ve been doing until now. A solo journey, completely free. What will I do after this?”
