Saxophone solo by Ravenna Escaleira, followed by a concert-performance by American cellist Daniel Levin with Russian dancer Masha Nikolaeva.
Daniel and Masha employ unison dialogues, counterpoint and juxtaposition in an improvised context to create multidimensional landscapes of sound and movement.

Ravenna Escaleira

Ravenna Escaleira was born in Porto, Portugal, studied piano and classical music at the Silva Monteiro Music School from the age of five, and began writing her first poems at the age of nine. At the age of fifteen, she began attending the Soares dos Reis Art School and left the following year to live in Buenos Aires with her father, a self-taught artist who organized events such as ArtBA and introduced her to the artistic world.
She then moved to Rio de Janeiro and after two years, Ravenna returned to Portugal for a short period, before leaving to travel around Spain. In Bilbao, she met different artists: musicians, street artists, poets and various painters, from whom she learned techniques and gained her first inspirations, especially from the punk movement and the DIY scene. In 2015, having returned to Porto, she became a single mother and continued to work independently, mainly in painting and poetry, and held two small exhibitions in Rua Miguel Bombarda. In 2017, she started her first music project, “RVN”, with electronic and experimental music. She performed regularly in Porto and released six albums. After a year, leaving “RVN” behind, Ravenna traveled to Bologna, Italy, with an alto saxophone, doing free improvisations in the streets, exploring the limits of personal experience, as well as the acoustics of different cities.
Ravenna’s debut on New York-based Relative Pitch Records is scheduled for release in the summer of 2025, in conjunction with his first US tour.

Daniel Levin

Daniel Levin was born in Burlington, Vermont, and started playing the cello at the age of six. In 2001, he graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music with a degree in Jazz Studies and hit the New York jazz scene soon after. Since then, Daniel has developed his own distinctive voice as a cellist, improviser and composer. Elements of European classical music, American jazz, microtonal and new music, and European free improvisation all figure prominently in his unique sound. He has performed extensively in the US and Europe, and has recorded over 25 albums as a leader or co-leader, which can be found on Clean Feed, HatOLOGY, Not Two, Trost, Riti, Mahakala, Phonogram Unit, Creative Sources, ears & eyes, and other record labels. Daniel is a supporter of the artists REMIC Microphones and Glasser Bows.

Masha Nikolaeva

Masha Nikolaeva is a contemporary dance artist from Russia, based in Lisbon. In 2020, she graduated in Choreography in St. Petersburg. Shortly after, she enrolled in the Performact intensive contemporary dance course in Torres Vedras. Both programs significantly shaped her artistic path, providing a solid foundation in contemporary dance, ballet, folk dance, tap, house dance, improvisation techniques and composition.
After completing Performact, Masha decided to settle in Lisbon to immerse herself in the Portuguese art scene and deepen her dance research. During this time, she had the opportunity to work with artists such as Marina Nabais, Gonçalo Lobato and André Guedes.
As an artist, Masha is passionate about multidisciplinary work, combining her diverse skills to explore new modes of expression through performance and dance videos. In recent years, she has been researching the character development technique based on Stanislavsky’s system, which helps her discover unique movement qualities, refine intentions and deepen her understanding of theatrical performance.
