Manifestos Para Depois do Fim do Mundo (Manifestos for After the End of the World) by Isabel Costa, a project produced by Possessos

Isabel Costa and Os Possessos present three manifestos from the show Manifestos para Depois do Fim do Mundo (Manifestos for After the End of the World), in a version for segundas na z – curated by Laura Gama Martins. This show premiered in 2023 and was co-produced by Culturgest and the Walk&Talk Biennial.

Inspired by the curatorial work of Hans Ulrich Obrist, three actors give voice to manifestos written after the year 2000, leading the audience through different spaces of ZDB. Each text is shared in close proximity with a small group of spectators, subverting the traditional, declamatory style of manifesto readings. At its core is the desire to speak attentively to the urgencies of the present—delivering words of hope, reflections on the world, and fragments of everyday life.
Manifestos Para Depois do Fim do Mundo is a theater project integrated into Isabel Costa’s broader, long-term research on manifestos. It stems from the intention to research and translate political manifestos little known to the Portuguese public, unfolding in presentations of various formats to make these texts visible. This project has already traveled to Dresden (Germany), Ravenna (Italy), and Havana (Cuba). In 2024, the project and the artist joined the European Fund for Emerging Artists.

In this short edition for Mondays at Z, three manifestos will be read:
Accelerationist Manifesto from Alex Williams and Nick Srnicek (2014) by João Pedro Mamede
Manifestos Contra o Trabalho (Manifestos Against Work) from Grupo Krisis (1999) by Catarina Rôlo Salgueiro
Manifesto do Cuidado (Care Manifesto) from Colectivo do Cuidado (2020) by Rafa Jacinto

After the presentation, Laura Gama Martins invites Isabel Costa for a conversation about this project.
