From their humble, hard-earned beginnings in a garage, creating a lo-fi psych sound, to their rise to the stages of major festivals such as Trans Musicales and Eurosonic, and their appearance on KEXP, the gradual recognition of this quartet from Braga over the last decade has been hard-won and courageous, mirroring their own evolution. Or, to put it another way, through the creation of an increasingly distinct and self-assured identity. A natural process, but never an easy one. Moving further and further away from the sphere of influence of bands such as Slift or King Gizzard & The Lizard, the band – comprised of David Ferreira, Gonçalo Carneiro, Gonçalo Ferreira and David Ferreira – incisively revealed the intensity of their heavy, trashy and somewhat progressive psychedelic rock with the release of the acclaimed Astromorph God in 2025, following the transformative process undertaken on Ano Luz and Sinking Creation. Riding this upward trajectory, Travo now present the brand-new Wasteland, an album that amplifies the stellar projections of Astromorph Gods to a point of fusion where expansive guitar leads, galloping rhythms, cascades of fuzz, spectral synth passages, wah-wah delirium, echoes and vocal melodies – somewhere between a scream and 70s nostalgia – crystallise into a sound that is as physically powerful in its sonic musculature as it is open to mental reverie.
