ECSTATIC VISION are an American heavy psych rock band that appeared as a trio in late 2013 in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, now active as a quartet: Doug Sabolik (vocals and guitar) and Michael Field Connor (bass) are founding members, Kevin Nickles (saxophone and keys) and Ricky Culp (drums) joined later. This concert at ZDB comes in the context of the European tour to promote their 4th album, Elusive Mojo, and according to the band’s press release, this record will not stray too far from the aesthetics with which they have presented themselves to the public: with little interest in the classic structure of the pop song, Ecstatic Vision specialise instead in the most primitive techniques of rock music, repetitiveness and intensity, embracing the concept of “troglodyte rock” to reach altered states of consciousness. Their sound is an intoxicating amalgam of acid rock, proto-punk and world music, crossing British (UFO, Hawkwind, Black Sabbath, etc.), American (Stooges, MC5, Funkadelic, etc.), German (CAN, Amon Düül II, Guru Guru) and African (Fela Kuti, WITCH, Amanaz, etc.) influences. ASIMOV
In 2022, ASIMOV hibernated from the stage. However, the year saw the release of ‘DIALECTS + STENAR MUSIK’, a double compact disc limited to one hundred copies.
With more than a decade of existence marked by a singular and independent path in the heavy psych universe, ASIMOV returns to the stage in trio format in a celebratory record stripped and direct based on drums, bass, guitar and, occasionally, voice.
For 2023, besides the recording of a theme for a Split Maxi Single with Acid Acid, in January, with edition planned for this year, ASIMOV has on his agenda the cassette edition of ASIMOV AND THE HIDDEN CIRCUS – FLOWERS with the North American label Saturn Eye Records and the return to concerts.
