'Os Mistérios de Casimiro', António Pocinho (Bruaá, 2026). Illustration by Pierre Pratt

Casimiro isn’t quite sure why he’s on Earth. He just knows he has questions. Lots of questions: Am I a special envoy or a secret agent from another galaxy? Why am I not from a different family? Why is there nothing instead of everything?…

But the more he searches for answers to the perplexities of his brief existence, the more his head spins like the Earth: round its own imaginary axis. Full of humour and absurdity, this is a book for all the inhabitants of this planet who are suspicious of answers that are too easy and who do not give up on finding answers.

Published in 2002 by Fenda, the book Os Mistérios de Casimiro is now published by Bruaá, with new illustrations by Pierre Pratt. The launch will feature Samuel Úria (musician) and the editors of Bruaá, Vasco Santos and Miguel Gouveia.

António Pocinho

‘An anthropologist, a traveller and a creator of whimsical writings, scattered across poetry, journalism, narratives, magazines, picture postcards, random phrases and texts for theatre, cinema, animation or music; António Pocinho was a collector of ‘objects’ and ‘works’, for whom ‘politicians would appear in his cornflakes’, or who would ‘invade countries after breakfast’. A keen observer of the universe, he left behind a paradoxical body of work, imbued with irony and black humour, exploring worlds as diverse as everyday reality and scientific and sociological fiction. He struck a balance between narrative, poetry and harmony, drawing on registers as varied as the playful, the tragic and the lyrical.’

António Pocinho (1959–2010) had some of his work published by Fenda, notably the books Rosto Pintado de Anjo no Cinema (1981), Elucidário Sexual (1997), A Ilustre Máquina de Ramires (1988), Pés Frios Dentro da Cabeça (1999), Quanto Custa Criar uma Sardinha (1999) and Os mistérios de Casimiro (2002).
