A whole new world born out of a patient and largely remote collaborative process spanning several years, following a fruitful first meeting in Bandung, Indonesia, in 2017, Duori unashamedly and legitimately bills itself as ‘5th World Music’, giving a nod to the legacy of Jon Hassell. With the imaginary neologism ‘duori’ suggesting a dimension somewhere between an inside and an outside – in keeping with the project’s very origins, in that shared virtual existence where ideas and recordings flow across distance and time – the music captured on this recording for the Belgian platform STROOM.tv also exists beyond geographical and temporal constraints. A fifth world born of the collective imagination of these two entities, whose paths have been distinct yet who are equally devoted to exploring other (un)realities: Whilst Heith, the Italian Daniele Guerrini has been reworking downtempo/trip-hop tropes, ECM-inspired atmospheres, hazy memories and an aura of mysticism that defies definition on albums for his own label, Haunter, or on the impressive PAN. Miles and experiences away, and with a highly recommended album on Rabih Beaini’s Morphine label – Wanci – Tarawangsawelas has been reviving the legacy of the sacred Tarawangsa music of West Java through minimalist and hypnotic gestures. From this cosmic alignment of sensibilities emerges Duori, a multicultural, fairy-tale-like evocation, somewhere between the urban mirage and the temples of Bandung, a gentle collision of traditional Indonesian instruments and electronic processing that weaves together notions of ancestry and the future in a present without a map, one that never succumbs to tourist voyeurism.

Raúl Gómez, better known as Raúl Jardín, is a Peruvian musician with a strong presence in Lima’s experimental music scene since the late 1990s, when he co-founded the duo Jardín with Orlando Ramirez. With hypnotic rhythms and industrial textures, the duo quickly became a reference within Lima’s emerging experimental music landscape, leading Raúl to perform at festivals in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Spain, Luxembourg, and Portugal.

Through his work, Raúl Jardín explores the soundscape of everyday life, creating compositions that draw on field recordings and sonic narratives oscillating between the real and the imaginary-locomotives, space battles, hammers, submarines navigating the sea, or interrupted radio transmissions. As a solo artist, he has also distinguished himself through composing music for dance, theatre, and opera, using a wide range of acoustic and electronic instruments. His artistic sensitivity, combined with solid technical expertise and extensive experience as a sound technician, adds depth and diversity to his musical practice.

Alongside his individual work, he is part of the duo Shaolines del Amor with Peruvian musician Tomás Tello, a project that has explored the field of Expanded Cinema, with presentations at the Tavira Cineclub and, more recently, within the Transcinema Comum cycle at Casa do Comum.

Since 2016, Raúl has lived in Tavira and, more recently, at Quinta da Fornalha, in Castro Marim, where he is also engaged in regenerative agriculture practices. From 2024 onwards, he has been regularly based in Lisbon, where he has presented DJ sets at Casa do Comum, completed an artist residency at Hangar C.I.A., and collaborated in several interdisciplinary projects.

These include the performance Pindó Azul with Letícia Larin; the duo Tabató a Rupa-Rupa with West African musician Demba Djabaté, with whom he has presented several concerts; and the project RESSOA – Ecos do Mundo, developed with SOMA Cultura – Associação Cultural, with a final presentation at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation on 7 February 2026.

Raúl also participates in the project ‘Museu do Lugar Vivo’, a documentary performance developed in collaboration with Margarida Mestre, artistic director of the project, and with Menosmuitomais, CRL, the cooperative managing the initiative. He is additionally involved in the project ‘À Procura de Andrómeda – Do Materialismo e da Paisagem’, both projects being supported by the Portuguese Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes).
