Magični Teatar is an independent theatre collective based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its artistic practice focuses on interdisciplinary, site-specific and research-based theatrical approaches, bringing together performance, movement, music, visual arts and work with space. The collective is particularly interested in formats that rethink the conventional relationship between performer and audience, as well as in creating productions that emerge from the specific social and historical contexts in which they are developed.
This approach is reflected in projects such as Bluebeard, created in the Botanical Garden of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in collaboration with women from different generations; The Tale of the Sleeper and the Great Awakening, developed in the Širokača neighbourhood, in Sarajevo, in response to a community at risk of landslides and drawing inspiration from elements of Bosnian folklore; and Masquerade in the Forest, a site-specific performance created in a forest near Fojnica, where the landscape, movement, music and ritual become integral elements of the dramaturgy.
Alongside its productions, Magični Teatar runs the Laboratorije magije (Magic Laboratories), an ongoing programme dedicated to artistic research, experimentation and the training of performers. The laboratories provide a space for exploring different theatrical and performative practices through movement, voice, improvisation, objects, sound and spatial work.
These laboratories also form an important part of the collective’s methodology: testing new approaches without the obligation to create a conventionally finished ‘play’, thereby creating opportunities for the exchange of ideas and practices between artists, participants and new collaborators.

The Theater Club is a multidisciplinary research platform developed in collaboration with artists working in the fields of dance, theatre and film.
This work is fundamentally based on collaborative experimentation.
The group comes together to develop and test creative practices devised collectively. This process includes drawing up stage plans, reflecting on forms of audience participation, creating improvisation scores, carrying out interdisciplinary warm-up exercises and other artistic research methodologies. These sessions provide a space for shared exploration, where ideas are developed, evaluated and refined through practice.
The Lisbon team is led by Katarina Lanier and comprises Gabriela Giffoni, Laura G Martins, Leo Shamah, Leonardo Mouramateus and Mauro Soares. The group regularly features guest artists. The Theater Club is supported by Casa do Comum, and Moreau Centre for Excellence marks the first public collaboration with Magični Teatar.
