AZENHA is the duo of artists Cláudia Guerreiro and Rui Carvalho, whose work on stage is presented in the form of music and image; a concert closer to the scenic and performing arts. Cláudia paints, creates scenery out of colour and paper, and moves lights on glass, which is filmed and projected onto a screen. Rui’s guitar is the voice of the story. All in real time.
The first creation of the same name told a story lost in the Alentejo, around a house, around the drawings of the sculptor Jorge Vieira and his love shared with the sculptor Noémia Cruz. It was a story close to family and skin. The two artists found themselves in this love story to look for another, also surreal and abstract, that somehow also told their own.
The new staged concert has been developed over the last year, in artistic residencies on the island of Pico and in Coimbra, and they are currently preparing for a final residency in Lisbon, at ZDB 8 Marvila, after which they will give a public presentation of what will already be the final show.
The eternal search for inspiration has now become the motto for this show, taking the form of an animal – perhaps a monster – that, by chance or on purpose, may have taught us how to master fire or invent time. At a time when we feel compelled to see ‘reality’ as the greatest enemy of the ‘dream’, this search, the same as always, takes on even greater significance.
