Inês Mendes Leal has been bringing what surrounds her in everyday life, visible and invisible, into her work, creating installations that combine and explore them, questioning their nature and materiality. Her curiosity and fascination with mundane objects, Dadaist ready-made objects, emptiness, and the sound created by the wind flow into the piece she creates for the Zé dos Bois bookshop, my vent is making a weird sound is this normal?
Inês Mendes Leal (b.1997) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Lisbon. Her artistic practice is centered on the action that air has on things, thus exploring how to recreate this dynamic presence, which occurs outdoors and recreate it in the interior/exhibition space. This exploration is not limited to this movement alone, but extends to the incessant search for a possible image of that which, by nature, consists of a non-image. Her entire practice is crossed by an attraction to the void – a desire to dive into what is not directly offered to us – a desire to reveal, feel and integrate the invisible into the visible.
