Z2B is a program born out of a collaboration between Antena 2 and Galeria Zé dos Bois, dedicated to broadcasting recent concerts presented at ZDB venues, especially those of the so-called new improvised music – a category based more on the exclusion of the canonical genres of classical, folk, pop/rock, or jazz music than on the certainty of what improvisation, experimentation, sound design, or the art of noise actually are.
Alongside the concerts, during the three hours of the Z2B broadcast, we will also have the opportunity to exchange a few words with the musicians, visit the exhibitions, installations, and performances in the Bairro Alto and Marvila venues, and, in some rare fallow month, access the ZDB archives where many of the records that have marked the national scene in recent decades are kept.
Finally, this is a program that takes advantage of the cutting-edge technology installed in bovine horns, bringing the best national products with controlled designation of origin to new pastures, thus disproving the popular expression ‘a bird in the hand is worth two oxen in the bush’. As you can see, it is also a cornucopia of puns for quiet evenings.

Ep. 4 - 27/04/2026

On the lineup for the fourth Z2B broadcast: a set by Garoa, the duo of Brazilian musicians based in Portugal—Raphael Soares on drums and percussion, and Henrique Dias on keyboards, synthesizer, guitar, and percussion—on March 14; the second of two concerts by Rafael Toral on processed electric guitar, on March 18 and 19, in a retrospective of his work; and, last but not least, the highlight: a concert by Sir Richard Bishop on solo acoustic guitar, presenting his latest album, “Hillbilly Ragas,” on March 21. All concerts took place, as usual, at Galeria Zé dos Bois. There was still time for an interview with Garoa, for the exciting schedule of upcoming concerts, and for one or two unexpected surprises.

Ep. 3 - 30/03/2026

The lineup for the third Z2B broadcast (with a repeat on April 13) features Vicente Mateus’s set, on drums, percussion, and found objects processed with pedals, feedback systems, and other esoteric elements, on February 14 at the ZDB’s Marvila venue; and the first of two concerts by Rafael Toral on processed electric guitar, on March 18 and 19 at the ZBD venue in Bairro Alto. These concerts are preceded by interviews with the musicians; in the case of Rafael Toral, the interview turned out to be quite extensive. The second part of these two concerts—retrospective and prospective of Toral’s work—will be broadcast on the next episode of Z2B, on April 26, accompanied by other pleasant surprises.

Ep. 2 - 02/03/26

Featured on the second edition of Z2B:
The concert, on February 4 at ZDB, featured two solo sets offering two contrasting approaches to the language of the electric guitar. That of French artist Nina Garcia, in the presentation of her debut album under her own name, “Bye Bye Bird,” in which explorations of the acoustic space of the room, the play of feedback with the amplifier, and the body of the instrument were dominant notes; and that of João Carreiro, in which his instrumental songs and soundscapes are supported by the processing of effects.
And also the concert on the 14th, now at the ZDB venue in Marvila, by the duo of Elori Saxl on electronics and Henry Solomon on baritone saxophone and bass clarinet, on the last stop of the European tour for the album “Seeing is Forgetting,” in a register of atmospheres diluted in minimalism, which inaugurated the collaboration between these American musicians in 2025. During the intervals, we talked with the musicians, recalled the future programming of the ZDB, and lost ourselves in other minutiae.
