‘A Casa da Praia’ is Anabela Almeida’s grandparents’ house in Mozambique. That’s where, in the early 1970s, the family spent their weekends, 200 kilometres from Nampula, on Chocas beach. In 2019, the family returned to Nampula and to Chocas beach. How has the passage of time altered the family’s memories, feelings and vision of the events of that time? The show recovers this personal experience in parallel with the history of a people undergoing profound change. It grasps memory – a unique memory, in the first person, or in many first persons. Stories of personal, intimate upheavals, crossed with the collective memory of a group, which later becomes the official history of a people.
