Drew McDowall

An absolute legend at the forefront of British music, he has been exploring new soundscapes for almost half a century. A magical quest that continues to sound as challenging as it is valuable today. As a telluric force in industrial music, he played with Coil and Psychic TV, adding a whole new sonic dimension, full of visions and hallucinations that would inspire future generations. A vast and particularly consistent body of work that reveals an infinite curiosity about sound and its multiple sensory manifestations. Between samples and cut-ups, esoteric marches and distant galaxies, McDowall’s universe is essentially liberating in its soul and intangible in its form. Much of his recent work has come to us through Dais Records. A lively stream of key albums that always add something new to the Scottish artist’s personality. In Agalma, he called upon other generations of fruitful creators such as Caterina Barbieri, Kali Malone, Elvin Brandhi, and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe to materialize a masterful double album—and without fear of daring to shape songs. On the following Undolations and Aberrations, we hear him from a hazy dance floor, fitting together ambient fragments, dub echoes, and so many sharp electronic maneuvers. And on the most recent A Thread, Silvered and Trembling, he gave us a unique orchestral journey (intense, enigmatic, and strangely soothing). Although devoid of formulas, the result is invariably the same: it fascinates the listener. Using a panoply of electronic and acoustic instruments, he dialogues with the potential of both natures, always on the threshold of boundaries. Highly textural, Mcdowall does not limit himself to the hermetic object, far from an intuitive magnetism. He equally dazzles with melodic paths and approaches to more traditional or recognizable compositional formats. But his final expressiveness reveals unusual and surprising creative resolutions. We have to go back to 2017 to remember his last visit to this venue. Those who have seen him know that his performances take on a ceremonial, even ritualistic dimension. He masters and refines an immersive experience that, for a few moments, seems to suspend the world outside. An unmissable and necessary return. NA

Ndr0n

Ndr0n is an audio-visual project, designed by Afonso Proenca, from Lisbon, Portugal.
The aesthetic emerges from the mechanical routines present in modern society, alluding to a dark reality where meaning is fabricated and behaviour is scripted.
Ndr0n is a portrait of the synthetic emotion experienced in urban living.
Defined by concepts such as transhumanism and technological singularity, the artist attempts to sonify the personification of self-conscious machines.
