Galeria Zé dos Bois presents Tiago Baptista’s most recent solo exhibition, the result of a year and a half of residence accompanied by Natxo Checa, the exhibition’s curator, which gave rise to the set of paintings and drawings presented in Febre.
Evoking several references with pictorial potential, from graphic elements of comics and illustration, and others tending to be abstract, to the history of western painting, passing discreetly through the imagery linked to internet navigation and digital platforms, Tiago Baptista convokes for these paintings both a set of prosaic references, as well as references admittedly spiritual and reflective. Baptista’s work results in the search for a place where we can question ourselves about the power relation between spoken and written language and the thought of painting; between a programmatic production and a poetic one, based on intuitive experience, about the gap between the human and the animal, seeking, sometimes with the use of humor and free association of images, to create new meanings, in a dialectic process that does not seek to and end, but rather to open discussion.
