Inês Tartaruga + Xavier Paes
Pure Spirit, 2024
performance, 15 minutes
‘Puro Spirito’ is a piece that addresses the connection between dance, air and sound, exploring the presence of the human body between negative and invisible space, and how this can be activated through movement. The performers use DIY whistles as extensions of the body, transforming the air around them into a tangible and sensorial experience through an intense choreography designed to generate sound through movement.
Inês Tartaruga Água and Xavier Paes are visual artists whose practices thrive on the intersection between performance, sound and image. They have been collaborating regularly since 2015, exploring eco-logical phenomena and their resonant bodies. Avid breathers, radical regeneration enthusiasts, sound explorers and advocates of DIY philosophies, they are interested in collaborative and participatory practices in public space rooted in improvisation, activism and multi-instrumentalism.
They have presented their work in various spaces, including Cafe Oto, Villa Arson, STUK Arts Centre, Fundação de Serralves, Galeria Municipal do Porto, Galeria Zé dos Bois, OCCII, Kunsthalle Freeport, NUB Project Space, Stichting Centrum and La Pointe de Lafayette.
